St. Patrick pounds Hillman on Homecoming

On Saturday, October 3rd, St. Patrick High School celebrated their homecoming with a 42-6 victory over the Hillman Tigers.

Hillman came to play, and the pads were popping on a beautiful fall afternoon at Portland High School. On this day, the Shamrocks were just too fast, and too dynamic on offense, and the TIgers had no answers for the speed of the St. Patrick defense either. In the first quarter, Payton Russman caught a pass from Connor Cross and ran 31 yards for the first score. Derec Fedewa pounded in the two-point conversion to make the score 8-0. On the next drive, the Shamrocks marched right down the field before Connor Cross ran in a touchdown. This left the score 14-0 after one quarter of play.

The second quarter was more Shamrock offense, with Shane Cook scoring on a 42 yard touchdown pass from Cross. Connor took in the two-point conversion, and the Shamrocks were up 22-0. The next drive saw Derec Fedewa break one of his signature runs, breaking multiple tackles and putting on the jets in a 63-yard touchdown. Payton Russman followed up with a two-point conversion run, making the score 30-0 at halftime.

After the half, Derec Fedewa again busted loose, taking off for a 40-yard touchdown. The Tigers responded with a long drive and a score, making the score 36-6. The Shamrocks marched right back down the field, and made the final score of the game, 42-6.

The fourth quarter was scoreless.

Offensive leaders for St. Patrick were Derec Fedewa with 12 carries for 168 yards and 3 touchdowns. Connor Cross was 5 for 6 for 125 yards and 2 touchdowns, and he ran for 28 yards and a touchdown. Payton Russman had 6 carries for 32 yards, and 2 receptions for 55 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, the Shamrock front line dominated the line of scrimmage with Brian Kwiecinski having 11 tackles and 4 tackles for loss (TFL), and Chase Fitzsimmons having 9 tackles and 1 TFL. Behind those two monster noseguards, Linebackers Derec Fedewa and Braxton Teachworth both had 12 tackles.

The Shamrocks travel to Manistee next week for a Saturday game against Manistee Catholic Central.
