Shamrocks win Homecoming

On Saturday, October 9th, the Portland St. Patrick Shamrocks hosted the Webberville Spartans for Homecoming. The Shamrocks came out sharp and fired up, easily defeating the Spartans 57-20.
In the first quarter, Payton Russman caught a pair of touchdown passes from Shane Cook (23 yard, and 5 yard), and the Shamrock defense held tight, leaving the score 13-0 after one quarter.
In the second quarter, the Shamrocks scored quickly on a run from Shane Cook. Webberville responded with a break away 74 yard touchdown pass. After that, Shane Cook threw 3 touchdowns, one to Braxton Teachworth (22 yards) one to Payton Russman (11 yards), and one to Tyler Groothuis (11 yards). Added to that was a two point conversion catch from Riley Mosser, and another Tyler Groothuis extra point. The Spartans also busted a 61 yard run, leaving the score 42-14 at halftime.
During halftime, Braxton Teachworth and Sarah Davlin were crowned homecoming king and queen.
After the half, the third quarter was all green as Payton Russman punched one in from one yard out. Devin Cook followed that up with a safety, and Payton Russman broke lose for another 18 yard run. This left the score 57-14 after three quarters.
In the fourth quarter, there was only one score, as Webberville broke free for a 67 yard run.
Offensive leaders were QB Shane Cook, who went 8 for 12 for 148 yard and 5 touchdowns and had 15 carries for 97 yards and a touchdown. Payton Russman had 16 carries for 76 yards and 2 touchdowns and 3 receptions for 39 yards and 3 touchdowns. Tyler Groothuis had 3 receptions for 53 yards and 1 touchdown.
Defensive leaders were Shane Cook who had 5 tackles and 3 assists. Landon Simpson had 3 tackles. Devin Cook had 2 tackles 1 assist 1 sack and 1 tackle for loss. Braxton Teachworth had 2 tackles and 3 assists.
The Shamrocks travel to Farwell on Friday, October 15th at 7:00 pm.
