Shamrocks steamroll Webberville
On Thursday, August 31st the Portland St. Patrick Shamrocks travelled to Webberville for a football matchup with the Spartans. The Shamrocks played exceptional football, and dominated the Spartans, winning by a score of 52-16.
In the first quarter, Brady Leonard kicked of the scoring with a 42 yard scamper, followed by a Tyler Groothuis extra point. Brayden Simon punched it in on the next drive with a 2 yard touchdown, and again, Tyler Groothuis made the extra point leaving the score 14-0 after one quarter.
The second quarter saw a deluge of Shamrock scoring, with Hudson King scoring on a 9 yard rush, and catching a 50 yard touchdown pass from Brady Leonard. Tyler Groothuis caught a 20 yard touchdown pass, and Brayden Simon also caught a 48 yard touchdown in the quarter. Tyler Groothuis went 4-4 for extra points as well. The Spartans slipped one past the Shamrock defense, leaving the score 42-8 at halftime.
After the half, the Shamrock defense held strong, and Hudson King busted loose for a 30 yard rushing touchdown, leaving the score 49-8 after three quarters of play.
The final quarter saw a school record broken, when Tyler Groothuis booted a 42 yard field goal. Webberville punched one in at the end, to leave the final score 52-16.
Offensive leaders for the Shamrocks were Brady Leonard who went 4 for 9 for 123 yards and 3 touchdowns, and rushed 8 times for 173 yards and 1 touchdown. Hudson King had 8 carries for 85 yards and 2 touchdowns and one 50 yard touchdown reception. Brayden Simon also had 8 carries for 71 yards and a touchdown and had a 48 yard touchdown reception as well.
The Shamrock defense was stifling all night, shutting down a shifty quarterback and some large receivers. Aiden Mosser had 6 tackles, Brayden Simon had 3 tackles 1 sack and 1 tackle for loss (TFL), Augustus Teachworth had 4 tackles and 1 TFL. Riley Mosser had 3 tackles as well. All players played for St. Patrick, and 14 players on the Shamrock side had tackles.
