Shamrocks fall to Montabella

On Friday, September 4th, the Portland St. Patrick football team travelled to Montabella High School to take on the Mustangs. St. Patrick had not played this season, as their week 1 opponent forfeited, while Montabella was coming off a lopsided victory over 2025 D1 State Champion Martin. The Shamrocks just showed too much rust, and were unable to keep up with Montabella, ultimately losing 52-24.
Montabella won the first quarter, with the only score, breaking a big 64 yard run to leave the score 0-8 after the first.
The second quarter saw the Shamrocks answer, with a 3 yard touchdown run by Emmet Fandel, followed by the two point conversion, a run by Jerryd Scheurer. Montabella followed with two scores, before the Shamrocks answered on a 5 yard touchdown pass from Jerryd Scheurer to Tyler Thelen from the 5 yard line. Jerryd Scheurer again ran in the two point conversion, leaving the score 16-24 at halftime.
The third quarter was a defensive battle, with Montabella again having the only score, extending their lead to 16-30 after three quarters.
The fourth quarter saw two more scores from Montabella, before the Shamrocks answered again on a Caleb Pline one yard touchdown, and an Emmet Fandel two point conversion. Montabella put one more score on the board, making the final score 24-52.
Offensive leaders for the Shamrocks were Emmet Fandel with 9 carries for 76 yards and a touchdown, Caleb Pline with 11 carries for 42 yards and a touchdown, and Sam Mustapha had 4 carries for 30 yards.
Defensive leaders for the Shamrocks were Emmet Fandel with 12 tackles, Isaiah Rockey with 7 tackles, and Jerryd Scheurer and Mason Simon both had 6 tackles.
