On Saturday, June 5th the Portland St. Patrick Shamrocks hosted the districts for Baseball. The Shamrocks exploded onto the playoff scene, winning the first game against Bellevue 25-0, and the second game against Carson City-Crystal 16-0.
In the first game, Shane Cook took the mound, pitching 3 innings, giving up 2 hits and striking out 4. Brayden Simon pitched 1 inning and struck out 1. The Shamrocks scored 2 in the first, 6 in the second, and 4 in the third, before exploding in the 4th inning and scoring 13. Offensive leaders were Connor Cross who went 3 for 3 with a homerun and 4 RBI's and Austin Fleischer who went 3 for 3 with a triple and 4 RBI's.
In the second game, the Shamrocks were matched up with Carson City-Crystal who had just knocked out Fowler to make it to the finals. CC-C looked exhausted after playing a game in the 90+ degree sun and the Shamrocks took advantage of that, scoring 6 in the first inning, 5 in the second inning and 5 in the third inning. Connor Cross took the win on the mound, putting up a 3 inning no-hitter, and striking out 4. Offensive leaders for the district final were Braxton Teachworth who went 2 for 3, with 5 RBI's. Connor Cross, Shane Cook, and Evan Schrauben all went 2 for 2.
The Shamrocks travel to Concord for the regional semifinal game on Wednesday, June 9th for a 5:00pm game against Concord. The Regional Finals will be held next Saturday, in Decatur.
