Rylee Scheurer Named April Student-Athlete of the Month

Rylee Scheurer, a junior at St. Patrick School, has been selected as the Portland Beacon and J-Dubb’s Signature Subs Student-Athlete of the month for April 2023.

Scheurer is competing in two sports this Spring for the Shamrocks, softball and track.

St. Patrick softball coach Keelie Honsowitz nominated Scheurer saying, “Rylee came into the softball season with an arm injury and has been working hard on her recovery to get herself back in a role to be a leader on the team. While she has not yet made it back on the mound as our starting pitcher, she has quickly settled back into her role of lead off hitter and center fielder. Rylee is currently leading our team with a batting average of 0.636 as well as has 18 stole bases.”

Honsowitz added, “It takes a lot of dedication and commitment to be a dual sport athlete, especially in the spring seasons. There is a lot of compromise and hard work that is needed to make this work and Rylee is one of those athletes that is always willing to go above and beyond to do whatever it takes. Rylee is one of the most hard working athletes, not only as a team leader, but also in her own personal commitment to getting better and stronger.”

Track coach Dawn Fedewa also nominated Scheurer saying, “At the Fowler Invitational, she was part of the 4x200 relay that broke a six-year-old school record. At the meet, Rylee earned three medals for her three first place finishes. At the Breckenridge Invitational the following week, she earned another three medals, helping the team win the Gold Division. Just four days later, she was on the 4x100 relay that broke a 30-year-old school record at a CMAC league meet. To cap off the month, at the 18 team Webberville Invitational, Rylee was part of the 4x200 relay that set a meet record. She earned four medals, with three 1st place finishes, as the girls team won the small school division and took 2nd overall at the team invitational. Rylee is undefeated in the 200M and has finished first in all but one 100M race. She has set personal best times in both the 100M & 200M this season and is currently ranked in the top 10 in Division 4 in the 100M, 200M, 4x100 & 4x200.”
