Rep. Calley to chair Local Government and Municipal Finance Committee

State Rep. Julie Calley of Portland today was appointed by Speaker Jason Wentworth to serve as chair of the House Local Government and Municipal Finance Committee.

The committee will address local government issues related to budgeting, financial liabilities, zoning, local authority, public safety and planning. Prior to serving in the House, Calley previously served for eight years as an Ionia County Commissioner, leading the board as chairperson for three years.

“I understand how local government works, and the important role it plays in providing essential services that Michigan families rely on each and every day,” Calley said. “My focus will be on crafting policies that foster resilient communities and help our economy grow stronger.”

Additionally, Calley will serve on the Rules and Competitiveness, Tax Policy and Elections and Ethics committees.
