Raider Softball wins bracket at Gull Lake Tournament, remains unbeaten

The Portland High School softball team traveled to Battle Creek’s Bailey Park on Saturday to compete in the Gull Lake Tournament.  Battling cold and windy conditions, the Raiders won all three of their contests and were champions of their bracket.  With the wins, the Raiders improve to 10-0 on the season.

Game 1: Portland 13, Hartford 1

In the first game of tournament play, Portland tallied 13 runs on 14 hits to defeat the Huskies.

Five Portland players had two hits in the game, including junior Bailee Fish, sophomore Claire Lyon, junior Anastasia Seidelman, freshman Veda Smith (double), and junior Anna Morris. 

Sophomore Bella Spitzley pitched the complete seven inning game striking out five and allowing only two hits. 

Game 2: Portland 14, Gobles 4

Three Raiders had two hits in the second game, including sophomore Rylee Miller, junior Autumn Reffitt (double and home run), and Lyon (home run).  Junior Chloe Page had a double.

Senior Jayden Townsend pitched the complete five inning game striking out seven and only allowing six hits. 

Game 3: Portland 11, Centreville 2

Portland scored 11 runs on 17 hits in the third and final game of the day. 

Reffitt led Portland offensively with four hits including a double.  Spitzley had three hits with a home run.  Townsend, Miller, Lyon (double) and Seidelman (double) each had two hits.

Spitzley pitched the full seven innings striking out five Bulldog batters.

Up Next

On Tuesday, the Raiders will host Lakewood.  The Vikings were picked first in the CAAC White in the pre-season coach’s poll.

Thursday’s scheduled contest with Williamston has been canceled.  The Raiders will now travel to Olivet on Friday to make up contests that were rained out earlier this year.
