Raider Baseball Tops Ionia

On Thursday, the Portland Raider baseball team picked up two wins over CAAC White rival Ionia.

Game 1: Portland 7 – Ionia 6

The Raiders took this one into extra innings before shocking Ionia 7-6. The Portland squad had a total of 14 hits in the contest. Senior Grant Ruddy and junior Trent Trierweiler each had three hits in this game. Senior Hunter Morris added two hits for the Raiders. On the mound, Trierweiler, junior Brady Busy and Marc Nobis combined for nine strikeouts.

Game 2: Portland 14 – Ionia 5

In the second game, the Raiders had 15 hits. Senior Alex Russman went three for three with two RBIs. Seniors Reese Townsend and Trevor Williams, along with junior Jorgen Sunday, Bush and Nobis each had two hits. Trierweiler and Ruddy pitched for Portland and gave up a combined nine hits.

This past Saturday the Raiders traveled to Coldwater for a couple of non-conference game. The Raiders had one win and one loss on the day.

Game 1: Portland 20 – Three Rivers 3

Russman went four for five and had two RBIs. Ruddy went three for three with four RBIs. Morris went three for four with three RBIs.

Game 2: Traverse City Central 4 – Portland 3

Ruddy and Sonday each had two hits for the Raiders, but Portland batters had a problem advancing their runners, leaving 10 runners on base. Bush, Morris and Trierweiler combined for six strikeouts on the mound.

Portland is now 4-3 overall, and 3-1 in the CAAC White.
