Raider Baseball Splits with Strong Holt Squad
On Monday, the Portland High School baseball team hosted the Holt Rams.
Game 1: Holt 4 – Portland 2
Brady Bush would pitch the first five 1/3 innings striking out three and allowing five hits. Hunter Morris would pith the final one 2/3 innings striking out one and allowing one hit.
Alex Russman, Trent Trierweiler (double), Grant Ruddy, Reese Townsend and Bush (double) each had one hit for the Raiders.
Game 2: Portland 11 – Holt 7
Russman would start on the mound for the Raiders and pitch six 2/3 innings, striking out eight while allowing only five hits. Trevor Williams would come in for the final 1/3 inning.
Morris went two for three at the plate and picked up his first PHS home run. Russman went three for four at the plate with a double and a triple. Trierweiler, Ruddy, Marc Nobis, and Williams would each hit for Portland.
The Raiders are now 13-12 on the season.
On Wednesday, it was announced that the Raiders had been award an invitation to the Dean Shippey Diamond Classic in Lansing. Portland will travel to Williamston on Monday in opening round of play. Other team to make the tournament list for 2021 include Grand Ledge, DeWitt, Eaton Rapids, Pewamo-Westphalia, Lakewood, East Lansing, Okemos and St. Johns. This will be Portland first trip to the classic since 2017.
