Portland's Blackmer and Sandborn part of Mid-Michigan Marauders Regional Hockey Championship
Congratulations to Portland High School hockey players Evan Blackmer and Reese Sandborn and their Varsity team, the Mid-Michigan Marauders, who defeated the Okemos Chiefs to win the MHSAA Regional Championship on Saturday at Munn Ice Arena.
After repeated delays to the start of their season and the permanent closing of their home ice rink, the undeterred Marauders dominated the South Central High School Hockey League and have amassed an impressive record of 15-2. The team will be advancing to the State Quarterfinal Playoffs to face the Saginaw Heritage Hawks Wednesday 7:30pm at Munn Ice Arena.
The Marauders, in their third season, consist of players from Holt, Eaton Rapids, Grand Ledge and Portland High Schools. After the permanent closing of the Summit Sports and Ice Complex in Diamondale, the Marauders relocated to their new home ice at Optimist Ice Arena in Jackson.
