Portland’s Abbey Pohl to join Montcalm Community College Volleyball Team
Portland High School senior Abbey Pohl has signed to play volleyball at Montcalm Community College next year.
While at Portland, Pohl played four years of volleyball including playing for the Airstrike program.
When asked about her decision to attend Montcalm Community College, Pohl said, “I choose to continue my volleyball career at Montcalm because I love the sport and I’m excited to continue playing.”
Pohl was an all-conference in 2022, and beat multiple blocking records.
Pohl told the Beacon, “I would like to thank my Airstrike coaches (Kelsey and Kali Jo) for helping me become the player I am today.”
Jody Babcock was the PHS Varsity Volleyball Coach for the 2022 season. Babcock said, “Abbey was a very coachable player and a very honorable teammate. She was our silent leader all season as our most consistent player at the net. She was determined to lead her teammates through her diligence, encouragement, humor and drive to reach her goals. I am excited for her future at MCC and I look forward to hearing about her accomplishments at the next level! I wish her all the best!”
With its main campus in Sidney, the Centurion athletic teams will participate in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA). In addition to volleyball, the school is starting programs in men’s golf, as well as men’s and women’s basketball, bowling, clay target shooting and cross country.
