The Portland Girls Wrestling program turned in an impressive showing at this weekend’s district tournament, finishing 4th overall of 44 teams with 79 team points and advancing six athletes to the regional championships. The Raiders trailed Dewitt by just five points, while Fowlerville and Oxford claimed the top two spots.

It was a day marked by resilience, big wins, and standout performances across the lineup.

Amari Adler (120) delivered an inspiring performance at the tournament, going 2–2 and finishing her season with a winning 26–19 record. After a redemption match against a league opponent, followed by an 11–0 major decision, Amari fell to an opponent from Dewitt in a 1-7 decision in the blood rounds.

Georgia Stahl (115) opened her day with a commanding 14–3 major decision over an Okemos opponent before falling to the eventual district champion in round two. She rebounded with a second‑period pin in the blood round to secure her regional qualification and finished 4th after a hard‑fought match against Chippewa Valley. Now 33–7, Georgia enters regionals as a strong contender for her second state berth.

Alli Teachworth (130) continued her strong sophomore campaign, going 2–2 with two pins and placing 4th. She opened with a fall over East Lansing, battled a state qualifier in round two, and secured her regional berth with a one‑minute pin in the blood round. Now 24–14, Alli moves on to regionals with momentum and confidence.

Lilli Teachworth (105) earned her regional qualification with two lightning‑fast pins, finishing 2–2 on the day and taking 4th place. After dropping her first match to Fowlerville, she responded with back‑to‑back sub‑one‑minute falls to punch her ticket to regionals. Lilli, now 30–15, will look to secure her second state qualification next weekend.

Jonnie Miller (155) entered the tournament at 30–17 and wrestled with grit throughout the day. She narrowly dropped her opening match 10–9 after tying the score late, then stormed back with a pin over Fowlerville to clinch her regional spot. Jonnie closed out the day with a 1:40 fall to take 3rd place and score 9 team points.

Maddi Pohl (170) delivered a dominant performance, going 2–1 and finishing as district runner‑up. She opened with a 13–1 lead before pinning her Chippewa Valley opponent, then secured her finals berth with a 3:18 fall over L’Anse Creuse North. Maddi, now 27–16, heads into regionals as a strong state‑qualification contender.

Rylan Johns (235) continued her standout season by capturing the district title with two first‑period pins—one in under a minute and another in 1:37. Now 33–7, Portland’s first‑ever female All‑State wrestler is positioned to qualify for the state tournament for the third consecutive year.

With six regional qualifiers and multiple podium finishes, Portland continues to build on one of its strongest seasons to date. The Raiders will compete next at the Regional Tournament at Warren Mott High School on Sunday, February 22, with wrestling beginning at 11:30 a.m.

The team is poised, prepared, and hungry for more postseason success.
