Portland District Library News

Cory Grimminck - Portland District Library Director

Welcome to the Fresh Food Bonanza! We are inviting patrons to pick from the many fresh herbs and veggies in our garden, take the pickings home, and create some edible magic in the kitchen! Patrons can submit photo entries of their delicious creations via email to epock@portlandmilibrary.com for a chance to win a prize. Each week, patrons can submit as many photos as they’d like and a winner will be drawn every Friday until September 25. We can’t wait to see what kinds of tasty plates our patrons will create!

Brighten Your Bookshelves Everyone loves to have books in their home, but sometimes they can be difficult to manage. Add some organization to your shelves as we revive tired old library bookends by making them into usable works of art. This in-person program will take place on Wednesday, August 9 at 6:00pm. Ages 16 and up, registration is required.

Children’s and Teen

Paintastic Marblemania

Rolling, rolling, rolling! We’ve got all the marbles and other supplies our Littles will need to create amazing works of art this summer during Paintastic Marblemania. Registration for Take-and-Make bags will begin on Wednesday, August 2. Craft along with library staff on YouTube as we show you the steps it takes to roll your way to a masterpiece. Recommended for ages 5 & under, requires parental supervision, and is limited to 25 patrons.

LEGO Minifig Swap

Calling all LEGO minifig fans! We’re bringing you a LEGO program unlike any other you’ve seen before. But wait, we won’t be building with any LEGO, we’ll be trading them! Bring all the minifigures from home that you are ready to part ways with and trade them with fellow LEGO lovers for their minifigures. Trade parts, trade accessories, trade them how you’d like. Patrons ages 6-12 are invited to register for this program taking place Wednesday, August 9 from 4:00-5:00 p.m. in the Community Room. We can’t wait to see all the trades go down!
