Portland Boys Varsity Wrestling Takes Third at Jim Mooney Classic

Portland Boys Varsity Wrestling competed at the 63rd Annual Jim Mooney Classic on Saturday, January 17, and delivered an impressive performance. The Raiders finished third out of 27 teams and crowned two individual champions.
Those champions have continued their dominance this season with perfect records.
Senior Brad Meyers, currently ranked third in the state in Division 2 by Michigan Grappler, went 4–0 in the 190-pound weight class to claim a championship.
Junior Branlun Simon, ranked fourth in the state in Division 2, went 3–0 in the 120-pound weight class, also earning a championship title.
Additional standout performances included Landon Guilford, who placed second at heavyweight, falling only to Grand Ledge’s Logan Tollison. Gunnar Williams (215), Griffin Opperman (150), and Grady Lanz (106) each secured third-place finishes, while Landon Lanz (126) rounded out the placers with a fourth-place finish in a highly competitive bracket.
With this strong showing, the Raiders have climbed into the Michigan Grappler team rankings at No. 8 in Division 2.
