On Thursday, the Portland Raiders traveled to Lucky Strike in Grand Rapids for the Regional Championship.
The boys team finished 1st place, claiming the program’s second regional title and its first-ever Division 2 regional championship. From the start, the Raiders came out strong in Baker games and held first place for most of the day, setting the tone early and never letting up.
Leading the charge was Wyatt Spear, who earned high bowler honors with impressive games of 235 and 226. Camden Calkins followed with a solid 360 two-game series, while Zach Edlund added a 355 two-game series to keep the momentum rolling.
Beyond the scores, what stood out most was the team chemistry. The Raiders bowled with energy, confidence, and unity — their morale was contagious, and even competitors across the lanes could hear the excitement and support.
A special shoutout goes to Tanner Brownell, Easton Pleyte, Zayden Edwards, and Broc Dalman. Competing in their first regional tournament, they handled the moment with maturity, controlled their emotions, and provided outstanding support for their teammates throughout the day.
An unforgettable performance and a championship effort from start to finish.
The Portland Girls finished in 5th place.
On Friday the teams competed in the single's regional tournament.
For the first time in program history, we had 3 boys qualify for Individual States! Wyatt spear finish 2nd. Camden Calkins finished in 3rd and Zach Edlund finished in 6th.
For the girls, Savanah Sutton finished 3rd and qualified for the state finals for the second year in a row. Savanah averaged 166 for the six game block with a high game of 218.
Finishing just a few spots out of qualifying for states was Keira Moffatt. She averaged 155 which was good enough for 12th place. Karagan Calley also had a great day on the lanes finishing in 15th.
The rest of our competitors also bowled well in this competition. Joslynn finished in 30th, Sophia Pennington finished in 36th and Peyton Rockey finished 54th.
