Katheryn R. “Kate” Tegethoff ,85, of Portland, formerly of Harrison, passed away unexpectedly June 20, 2024.  Kate was born March 5, 1939 in Lansing, Michigan.  Kate was one of eight children born to Herman H. and Dorothy (Dickerson) Durbin, Sr. Kate was married to Charles “Chuck” Tegethoff, Sr. for 61 years before his passing in 2023.  A homemaker most of her life, she was the loving mother to her children Sandy and Richey, and proud grandmother to Ethan, who she adored.  Kate was an exceptional seamstress and crocheter and loved to share the items that she made with her family.  Kate also enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles and was an avid reader up to the end.  When her kids were young, the family enjoyed many family vacations camping and visiting other states.  Kate is survived by her daughter, Sandy (Jim) Thelen of Westphalia; grandson, Ethan Thelen of Westphalia; sisters, Harriet Eitniear and Dorothy (Jerry) Tegethoff; special nieces, Dennel McCarrick and Connie Jordan, and many other nieces, nephews and extended family members.  Kate was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws; her husband Charles “Chuck” Tegethoff Sr., and a son, Charles “Richey” Tegethoff Jr.  Kate’s wishes were to be cremated.  A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
