Marc Nobis Named November Student-Athlete of the Month

Marc Nobis, a member of the Portland High School football team has been selected as the Portland Beacon and J-Dubb’s Signature Subs Student-Athlete of the month for November 2022.

Nobis was the quarterback for the Raiders. In his nomination of Nobis, PHS Coach John Novara said, “Besides being an outstanding student and a great kid, Marc had an incredible football season for us this year. Marc is the captain of the football team, he threw for 1066 yards and 13 TD's. Marc also started as a defensive end, something I would rarely do with a QB. Marc is currently playing basketball and is our lone senior on the team. Marc is a tremendous leader and has the respect of all at Portland High School.”

Nobis is also a member of the PHS baseball and basketball teams.

To be nominated for this award, a student-athlete must attend either Portland High School or St. Patrick School, and be a member of a varsity sports program or school-sponsored athletic club at his/her school. Nominations may be made by a member of their high school coaching staff, athletic director, principal, or a school recognized student government organization at his/her school. Nominations are also accepted from The Portland Beacon contributing writers.

The monthly winner is selected by a panel of Beacon contributors. The winner receives a free sub thanks to our sponsor, J-Dubb’s Signature Subs.

Monthly winners are entered into the student-athlete of the year contest. The winner for the year receives a party platter from J-Dubb’s Signature Subs.

Other talented athletes receiving nominations for November are:

Tori Sandborn - SPS Volleyball

Coach Nicole Easlick said, “She is a Junior on the St. Patrick Varsity Volleyball team. She plays as libero for us and had a great season. Tori is a great defensive player. She was the top passer on our team and also dug the ball well. She led the team in digs this season and also broke 2 school records. Tori has the record for most digs in a season with 671 and the dig average with 5.686 per set. She is always on the floor and gives total effort. Many of Tori's stats came from the postseason. She did so well and is a big part of why we were district and regional champs.”
