Lady Shamrocks drop grudge match to Fowler
The Fowler and Portland St. Patrick girls basketball teams have had some fantastic basketball games over the past decade, and on Tuesday, January 31st the Shamrocks travelled to Fowler for the latest in this successful rivalry. The Fowler Eagles came in at 10-5 with a earlier season loss to the Shamrocks, while St. Patrick came in at 8-5 with losses to very good teams. The game was everything it was expected to be, with the Shamrocks leading early and the Eagles coming out ahead in the end, winning 51-44.
In the first quarter, a stifling Shamrock defense led to a 12-9 advantage for Portland St. Patrick. Natalee Teachworth led the Shamrocks with 6 points.
The second quarter was a defensive battle, with the Shamrocks eeking out a small win 7-5, taking a 19-14 lead into halftime. Tori Sandborn led the Shamrocks with 5 points.
After the half, the Eagles surged a bit, winning the quarter 21-16, and leading to a tied game after three quarters 35-35. Natalee had a huge quarter, putting in 9 points to lead St. Patrick.
The fourth quarter saw the Eagles hit some clutch shots and win the game, winning the quarter 16-9 and the game 51-44.
Offensive leaders for the Shamrocks were Natalee Teachworth with 17 points 8 rebounds 1 assist and 1 block, Addison Scheurer with 8 points 1 steal and 1 assist, Laynie Meredith with 6 points 2 steals 3 rebounds and 6 assists, and Rylee Scheurer with 4 points 1 steal 7 rebounds 1 assist and 1 block.
The Shamrocks travel to PW for another big game against the Pirates on Thursday, February 2nd.
