Four Raider wrestlers advance to States
The #10 ranked Raider wrestlers advanced to team Regionals where they defeated Chippewa Hills 65 to 18, before falling to a strong #3 ranked Alma team 51 to 20 in Regional Finals.
On February 12th, fourteen of the Raider wrestlers competed against a very solid individual district at Alma. The Raiders were able to advance seven wrestlers that placed in the top four in their respected weight classes. Congrats to Freshman #103 Collin Fernholz, Junior #112 Jake Olson, Junior #125 Ethan Webert, Senior #130 Caiden Pelc, Junior #135 Drew Miller, Senior #140 Trent Trierweiler, and Junior #145 Isaiah Pelc.
These seven wrestlers competed at Individual Regionals at Howard City Tri-County High School over the weekend with representation from over twenty schools. The Raiders were able to advance four to the MHSAA Individual Wrestling State Finals that will be held in Detroit at Ford Field the first weekend of March.
The four Raiders advancing to states are Caiden Pelc (Runner Up), Drew Miller (4th), Trent Trierweiler (Regional Champ) and Isaiah Pelc (3rd).
During the Regional Meet on Saturday, Portland’s Head Wrestling Coach Andy Pulling was awarded Regional Coach of the Year.
