Joel VanSlambrouck and Scott Teachout are the proud owners of G and B Pools and Supplies, a swimming pool and hot tub specialty store serving Portland.
“We not only sell pool supplies, but we also install pool liners and we sell equipment such as pool heaters and salt-water chlorinators,” said Joel. “We are a Hayward Warranty Station,” he continued, “and it is one of the biggest names in the swimming pool industry. We are the only warranty station located within a 50 mile radius of Portland,” he said.
Joel and Scott not only sell in-ground pool supplies, but they also offer above-ground pool packages.
They purchased the business from Gerry and Bev Selden in 2005.
“We saw an opportunity to own our own business, and this opportunity looked much more desirable to us than that of working for someone else,” said Joel.
They employ seven people including themselves.
“As we’ve grown our business, we have been able to hire more people,” said Joel.
Joel is a twenty-three year veteran of the United States Army. In addition to his business, Joel is actively involved with the American Legion and he serves as Mayor Pro-Tem of Portland.
“Being involved in the business community allows me to support the economic engine of the city,” he said. “It helps me to make sound decisions at the city council level. The American Legion is also very important to me. It will always be in my heart,” he said.
Joel says that Portland is a wonderful place to live, to work and to play.
“Portland is very supportive of its small businesses, and Scott and I feel grateful for this. It motivates us to give back. Portland is a wonderful place to serve,” he said.

Hi! A neighborhood pool business near me reopened last season after a long renovation, and it was interesting seeing how much work goes into something most people only notice when it is already finished. Everyone comments on the clean tile, the water, the overall look, but the owner was talking more about timing, equipment choices, and how one delayed delivery can throw off everything else. I ended up thinking about that later because renovation stories always sound simple from the outside.
By the time I got around to reading Zodiac Pool Systems reviews, what caught my attention was how much daily upkeep shapes the real experience long after the install is done. That made the whole subject feel more practical…
