St. Patrick School to Celebrate Spirit Week/Homecoming

St. Patrick School is excited to celebrate our 69th annual spirit week and homecoming. Students and staff alike are preparing to celebrate this annual tradition with spirit week officially kicking off on Monday, September 28.

This year's theme is Board Games. The first activity will be the annual hall decorating contest. Each high school class selected a board game and will decorate their section of the hall accordingly. The freshmen selected Clue, the sophomores chose Monopoly, the juniors selected Candyland, and the seniors chose the game of Life.

Like most schools in the area, each day of spirit week will have a theme and students will dress accordingly. This year, Monday is “Comfy Day,” Tuesday is “Dress as your parents or their occupation,” Wednesday is “Sunday best,” Thursday is “Hawaiian vs. Hippy” and Friday is always “Spirit Day.”

The Friday of homecoming week is the big day with many activities and much celebration. The day begins with apple cider and donuts for the middle and high school students. We host a volleyball tournament for the guys. The girls will participate in the annual Powder Puff football game which features the freshman and junior girls against the sophomore and senior girls. We also host our annual homecoming pep assembly. All these activities will occur, weather permitting, since they need to be outdoors to ensure we are meeting spacing protocols. Guests are not allowed at these activities this year due to Covid-19 protocols.

This year, our homecoming game will take place on Saturday, October 3, beginning at 2:00 p.m. We may allow only two guests per football player and cheerleader per MHSAA directive. With the exception of crowning our king and queen and introducing our class representatives, we are unable to host any activities at the game.

Our homecoming court consists of seniors Brice Cook, Chase Fitzsimmons, Jacobe Hayes-Dunning, Aurora Beckhold, Marlie Bengel, and Marian Pearson. Junior representatives are Kyle Edlund and Kayla Florian, sophomores Seth Frawley and Emma Honsowitz, and freshmen Riley Mosser and Addison Scheurer.

Following the game, it will be time for our final homecoming tradition which is our annual bonfire. This year we are only able to have just the St. Patrick High School students and chaperones attend due to having a limit of 100 persons at any outside gathering.

We are very excited and look forward to another fun and successful spirit week and homecoming celebration. Since we are unable to have our alumni return for the big game, we encourage them to like our St. Patrick School Facebook page and watch the game being live streamed.

This school year, we have much to celebrate and want our spirit week and homecoming celebration to be safe and successful with everyone following established protocols. We are excited to have the opportunity to celebrate our school and all that has been done to allow our students to return to in-person education if they chose to do so and have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities. While our 69th annual homecoming and spirit week will have a slightly different feel due to limitations that allow us to keep everyone safe, it will still be a great celebration for our students and our school community and we look forward to it with much anticipation.
