Portland Raider & St. Patrick Shamrock Cross Country Runners Compete at Eaton Rapids Class Invit
Eighteen Portland area Cross Country Runners competed against other runners, from different schools but in the same academic grade, at the Annual Eaton Rapids Class Invitational on Tuesday. Freshman and Sophomores competed against each other as did Juniors and Seniors. They were further divided into Boys and Girls teams.
In the Boy’s Freshman/Sophomore race, Raider Freshman Devin Spitzley finished first among Portland area runners with a time of 23 minutes and 14 seconds for the 5K race. He was followed by fellow Raider Matt Seavy, Shamrock runner Martin White, and Raiders Austin Schneider and Brycin DeShane.
In the Girls Freshman/Sophomore race, Shamrocks Ellayna Meredtih and Cozette Brown led all area runners, with times of 23:11 and 23:17 respectively. Followed by Raiders Valerie Hoppes, Maya Estell, Lilly Buckland and Ellie Pung. Arianna FoxElster also finished for St. Patricks.
In the Girls Junior/Senior race, the Raider’s Elania Volk led all Portland Runners with a time of 25:18. She was followed by Alyssa Jack, Destiny Foltz and Teaghan Lathers.
Senior Raider Carter Rosier, set a new personal record of 19 minutes and 14 seconds, to finish 11th overall in the Junior/Senior race. Rosier’s previous best time for the 5K was 19:20 when he was a Sophomore. Junior Ben Wasmus finished at 23:58 for the Raiders. St. Patrick’s has no Jr./Sr. runners.
This past Saturday, the St Patrick varsity team had another highly successful meet at the PW Fall Classic Invitational. For the girls, Lanyie Meredith finished 22nd just missing the top 20 and medal. She lowered her personal record by over 1/2 minute finishing with a time of 22:48. Cozie Brown also just missed the top 20 and a medal finishing 24th. She lowered her season best by over 1/2 minute finishing with a time of 22:54. Arianna FoxElster lowered her PR by almost 4 minutes with a time of 30:50.
For the boys, Martin White finished with a time of 25:45 lowering his PR by 3 & 1/2 minutes.
The Raiders next Cross Country meet will be on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at the CAAC White Jamboree which will be held at the St. Francis Retreat Center in DeWitt. St. Patricks travel to Bath on Wednesday the 23rd for a CMAC invitational.
