Raider Tennis opens season with two second place finishes
The Portland High School tennis team hosted their first quad of the season on Wednesday. DeWitt, Almont, and Ludington were the other teams in the quad
The final team scores had DeWitt in 1st place with 18 points followed by Portland with 12, Ludington with 10, and Almont with 8.
Portland Coach Joel Cross said, “It was nice to get back to a little bit of normalcy with this match. The players and schools found ways to play tennis safely and it was great to see. Portland had 1 flight champion. The 3 doubles team of Casey Smith and Timothy Pohl tied with DeWitt and Ludington to share the flight championship. Jack Roe stepped into his new 1 singles role and showed that he really has what it takes to play with the top players. The whole team played very well overall. It was the first match of the season and there are still some things to work out but overall I couldn't be happier.”
The team played again on Friday, hosting University Liggett, North Muskegon, and Paw Paw. The Raider team placed second in the event.
