Obituary for Jetta Fern (Dent) Blake

Jetta Fern (Dent) Blake, age 85, of Portland, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2020. Jetta was born on July 18, 1934 in Hurricane, West Virginia, the daughter of Willis and Ida (Wyant) Dent.

Jetta was a retired Branch Manager of Michigan National and worked as a part time Librarian for Portland Library in her retirement. Jetta loved walking the trail in Portland when she was able. Most of all, she treasured her family, especially the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She always looked forward to family dinner night which was held once monthly. She always commented that she was “blessed” that all of her kids and grandkids were within 30 miles of her home.

Jetta was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Curtis “Jr.” Blake; her parents, Willis and Ida (Wyant) Dent; her in-laws, Curtis and Vernie Blake; her brothers, Wilkie, Don, and Freddie Dent; and her sister, Joann Meeks.

She is survived by her three children, Vikki (Steve) Spitzley of Lake Odessa, Kathy Hyland of Muir, and Curt (Brenda) Blake of Portland; 7 grandkids: Nick, Kyle, Corey, J.J., Chase, Anna, and Casee; 12 great-grandkids; her sisters, Joyce Queen of Florida and Jackie Edwards of Kentucky; and many nieces and nephews.

Because of the current conditions, a private graveside service for immediate family will be held at this time.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Portland Assisted Living and Memory Center in honor of Jetta. Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes. Online condolences may be made at www.lehmanfuneralhomes.com.
