Obituary for Charles Frederick Bowers

Charles Frederick Bowers, age 97, of Ionia, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2020. He was born on December 3, 1927 in Ionia, the son of Levi and Mary Elizabeth (Carter) Bowers. Charles was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WWII and a member of the V.F.W. Post #4090 in Portland. He retired from General Motors after 30 years of service, attended Shiloh Community Church in Orleans and liked watching the Detroit Tigers. Charles and his wife, Betty enjoyed spending their winters in Florida. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 73 years, Betty in 2019 as well as several sisters and brothers. Surviving are his children, Robert (MaryJo) Bowers of Lansing, Glenn (Meredith) Bowers of Portland, Connie (Lonny) Pierce of Cedar Springs, and Barbara Mullins of Port Huron; 9 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Pat Stevens. A private family traditional burial service will be held at Lehman Funeral Home, Ionia. Interment will be in Tuttle Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes.
