As of Tuesday, March 31st, the Portland Public School District has provided more than 17,000 meals to children in the community since schools were closed on Friday, March 13th.

Superintendent Will heath said, “Steve (Pell) and Gary's (Bond) crews have been doing an outstanding job pulling this off and working hand in hand (not literally... social distancing) together to set up and deliver meals. We will continue to run our Tuesday pick up and drop offs for the foreseeable future.”

Heath added, “They are doing this all with a skeleton crew as we do our best to limit the number of people reporting to work in an effort to minimize any potential spread of COVID in our community. We are not accepting volunteers at this time for that specific reason. If we need more workers we will utilize our own staff.”

The meal program is available to all students in the district, including those who attend St. Patrick School.
