Lady Shamrocks prepare for grudge match against Fowler

After the Shamrocks beat Morrice 38-29 in the district semifinals, they earned a chance to play Fowler for the third time this season.

The Lady Shamrocks finished the regular season with only 4 losses, two of them to Division 3 highly ranked Pewamo-Westphalia, and two very close games to Fowler. On December 18th, the Shamrocks dropped one to Fowler 52-49, and on January 30th they dropped a double overtime loss to the Eagles as well.

Coming into the playoffs, the Shamrocks look to have a good chance to make a run, with the two power house teams in Division 4, #1 ranked Adrian Lenawee Christian, being on the opposite side of the bracket, and #2 ranked St. Ignace will not be seen until the Semi-final game at the Breslin. Obviously there are plenty of other quality opponents in the playoffs, and first on the list is Fowler who also finished with only 4 losses. Two of their losses to Pewamo-Westphalia, one loss to Adrian Lenawee Christian, and one loss to Division II Portland.

The first game against Fowler was highlighted by a very significant foul disadvantage for the Shamrocks, and led to a hard fought loss for the Shamrocks. In the second game, the Shamrocks star point guard Lydia Meredith was also put into third quarter foul trouble on two offensive fouls that in this reporters opinion were just completely unacceptable. This allowed the Eagles to pressure the Shamrocks into turnovers, and, coupled with poor shooting from the Shamrocks allowed the Eagles to overcome a 17 point halftime lead and beat the Shamrocks. Fowler also shot incredibly well to overcome a huge halftime deficit.

The history between these two teams this season certainly bodes well for an exceptional basketball game on Friday, March 6th at Lansing Christian High School at 7:00 pm.
