Raider Wrestling has Two Champions and Five Placers in Bill Evan’s Invitational at Battle Creek Cent

The Raider Wrestlers proved to be adaptable and determined this past weekend. The Raiders were cancelled on January 11th, but filled that void with the Bill Evan’s Invitational hosted by Battle Creek Central. This is a large tournament consisting of 22 teams, many of which are larger schools than Portland.
Neither phased the Raiders as they finished with 180.5 team points earning them the 4th place trophy, only bested by division 1 and 2 teams by 34 points. Coach Andy Pulling summarized the day, “We came in with a chip on our shoulder. We wanted to wrestle hard against quality opponents and walk away feeling accomplished. I think we did that today.”
Champions on the day were Caiden Pelc at 125 lbs. collecting 5 straight pins and Trent Treiwieler at 130 lbs battling from a 4th seed. Dylan Vroman earned 2nd place with 4 pins. Isaiah Pelc wrestled at 135 lbs and earned 3rd place only losing the eventual champ. Ethan Webert, 103 lbs, Drew Miller, 119 lbs and Jared Thelen each earned 4th place finished while Branson Goodman defaulted with a late injury, placing him 8th.
You can come out and see the team at home on Wednesday, February 12th for Team Districts against the winner of Lakewood and Belding against Eaton Rapids.
