Shamrocks fall to Fowler Eagles

On Friday, January 31st the Fowler Eagles visited Portland for a CMAC match with the St. Patrick Shamrocks. The Shamrocks played tough and gritty defense and led at halftime, 18-12, but a big third quarter helped the Eagles put the Shamrocks away with Fowler winning 38-34.

In the first quarter, St. Patrick held the Eagles to only 5 points, and won the quarter 10-5. Four different Shamrocks scored. Tyler Coyne, Ryan Lay, Evan Schrauben, and Connor Cross.

Another great quarter of defense for both teams, the second quarter saw the Shamrocks extend their lead, winning the quarter 8-7. Ryan Lay, Evan Schrauben and Sam Mauren all put in points for the Shamrocks. St. Patrick was leading 18-12 at halftime.

After halftime, the Fowler Eagles came out on fire and quickly eliminated the Shamrock lead. The Eagles held the Shamrocks to 2 points from Ryan Lay, and outscored St. Patrick 15-2 and took a 27-20 lead into the final quarter.

St. Patrick was not finished, and fought hard throughout the final quarter, winning the quarter 14-11 but unable to overcome the deficit from the third quarter.

Offensive leaders for St. Patrick were Evan Schrauben with 12 points 3 rebounds and 1 assist, and Ryan Lay with 8 points 9 rebounds and 2 blocks.

The Shamrocks next plays on Wednesday, February 5th, home against Saranac.
