Lady Raiders Ground Eagles 44-30

The Portland high school girls basketball team hosted the Eagles of Olivet on Tuesday night. Despite having only a four point lead at the half, the Lady raiders would dominate in the second half and earn a 44-30 win.

The Lady Raiders were led by sophomore Ashley Bower with 19 points, sophomore Breckyn Werner with 13 points, and junior Ava Gruber with 6 points.

The leading scorer for the Eagles was Danae Feldpausch with 10 points.

Score by quarter:

1st – 2nd – 3rd – 4th – Final

Olivet 12 – 8 – 6 – 4 – 30

Portland 15 – 9 – 16 – 4 – 44

With the win, the Lady Raiders improve to 10-1 overall, and are 4-0 in the CAAC White. They travel to Charlotte on Friday. The Orioles are 5-4 overall, and 1-3 in the CAAC White.

According to the new MHSAA Michigan Power Ranking for girls basketball, the Lady Raiders are now fourth in division 2 with 0.658 MPR. The tip three teams in the division are Detroit Edison (0.835 MPR), Menominee (0.761 MPR) and Freeland (0.660 MPR).

The Lansing State Journal announced this morning that the Lady Raiders moved into the AP top 10 for division 2. The Raiders were ranked number 6 in the poll.
