Shamrock boys break into the Win Column

On Tuesday, January 14th, the Ashley Bears visited Portland to play the St. Patrick's Shamrocks. The Shamrocks put together a complete game, and dominated the Bears winning the game 64-36. In the first quarter, St. Patrick's jumped right out to a lead and cruised to a 15-8 lead. Connor Cross led with 6 points, and Chase Fitzsimmons put in 5. The second quarter saw very little scoring, but the Shamrocks still managed to extend their lead, winning the quarter 10-4. Connor Cross again led with 6 points, and Tyler Coyne and Ryan Lay each added 2. This left the score 25-12 at halftime. The Shamrocks dominated the third quarter, scoring 23 points, and holding the Bears to only 6 which led to a 48-18 St. Patrick's lead after 3 quarters. Ryan Lay led the Shamrocks with 8 points, and the Shamrocks had 7 players score in the quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Shamrocks let down their guard and little bit and the Bears took advantage, leading the Ashley winning the quarter 18-16. Bryce Cook led the Shamrocks with 6 points, and Tristan Huhn and Brett Weller both put in 3 pointers for the Shamrocks. Offensive leaders for the Shamrocks were Connor Cross with 19 points 7 rebounds 4 steals 1 block and 1 assist, Ryan Lay had 10 points 11 rebounds and 2 steals, Bryce Cook had 6 points 5 rebounds 1 assist and 1 steal, Sam Mauren had 6 points 4 rebounds 5 assists and 2 steals, and Tristan Huhn had 6 points. Coach Brett Pettit was happy to get a win. "I am really happy for all of the kids. We have been working really hard in practices and in the film room. It wasn't the most well executed game, but we got a win that we needed. Some things are starting to come together, which is really exciting. We have a very tough match up coming up on Thursday at Laingsburg, but I am just proud of all twelve kids today."
