Obituary for Leota A. Miller


Lee passed away on Friday, January 10, 2020 at the age of 94. She was born on March 21, 1925 in Ovid, Michigan. She grew up on various farms in the area with her parents, sisters and brother. Lee worked for a factory as a young woman during WWII, she then worked for Michigan “Ma” Bell Telephone in Ionia.

On September 21, 1947, she married Jay B. Miller and together they raised their family of four children. She loved her family, friends and God. Music and books were a big part of her life and she was always ready to sing and dance.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Forest and Thelma Burger; her husband of 41 years, Jay; daughter, Cheryl Armstrong; sisters, Jean, Doris and Dixie. She is survived by her children, Jill (Tom) Hoppes, Pam Avery, and Keith (Cindy) Miller; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren with one on the way; 4 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Carolyn (Bob) Scholtens; brother, L.D. (June) Burger; and many nieces and nephews.

The Memorial Service will be conducted by Rev. Dr. Marilyn V. Danielson at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 17, 2020 at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Muir. The family will receive friends 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to New Life Assisted Living in DeWitt, where Lee spent her final years, for their loving devotion and care for her.
