On Thursday, December 12th, the Shamrocks of Portland St. Patrick's visited Webberville for a showdown with the Spartans. The Shamrocks fought hard, but ultimately didn't have enough to outlast the Spartans and lost by a score of 62-45.
In the first quarter, the Spartans jumped out and took a 14-8 lead. Connor Cross had 5 points for the Shamrocks, and Ryan Lay had the other 3.
In the second quarter, the Shamrocks played tough and tied the quarter 13-13. Sam Mauren led the Shamrocks putting in 5 points. This left the Spartans leading 27-21 at halftime.
The Spartans came out after halftime and jumped on the Shamrocks, outscoring them 20-8 and extending their lead to 47-29. Connor Cross led the Shamrocks putting in 5, with John Schneider putting in the other 3.
In the 4th quarter, the Shamrocks were unable to overcome the deficit, but tied the quarter 16-16. Connor Cross led the Shamrocks with 8 points and Evan Schrauben chipped in 5 to leave the final score 62-45.
First year coach Brett Pettit was impressed with the quality of his opponent, "It was a great team to play early, and see where we must improve. That was a good team with some good athletes. If we want to get where we need to be, we must improve in all areas of the game, but especially valuing the basketball."
Connor Cross led all scorers with 20 points and 8 rebounds. Ryan Lay had 8 points and 12 rebounds. Evan Schrauben had 8 points, and Tyler Coyne had 5 assists.
The Shamrocks travel to Fowler on Tuesday, December 17th for a 7:30 matchup with the Eagles.
