Cozette Brown, a freshman on the cross country team at St. Patrick School, has been chosen as the winner of the J-Dubbs Signature Subs/Portland Beacon Student-Athlete of the Month award for October 2019.
Cozette was nominated by St. Patrick’s Athletic Director, Patrick Russman.
Cross Country Coach Dan Lawless said, “Cozette is the first female cross country runner from St. Patrick to earn the right to run in the cross state finals. As a freshman this year she has learned much about how to run the 5K (3.1 mile) race. With much hard work and dedication she has consistently improved her times throughout the season. She set PR’s in 7 of her 14 races, including setting a new school record twice. At the state meet Cozette improved her seed position by 20 places and ran the 3rd fastest time in school history. Cozette did all of this with maturity and modesty.”
Lawless added that Cozette, “finished 11th in the CMAC good for 2nd team all conference.” “Cozie always has a positive attitude, if we have any workouts with some optional extra work, she always takes advantage of the opportunity. She has great humility, you would never know that she has had any success.”
