Kristina Reynolds Appointed to the Library of Michigan Board of Trustees

Local resident, Kristina Reynolds, was recently appointed to the Library of Michigan Board of Trustees by Governor Gretchen Whitmer. She was selected to serve on the Board as a representative from a public library. The Board of Trustees is appointed to make recommendations to the Michigan Department of Education regarding Library services, budget, and proposed governing rules. In addition, the Board also makes recommendations regarding the employment of other administrative and general assistants and employees of the State of Michigan Libraries, including the Law Library Branch.

Ms. Reynolds started her career in libraries at the Sunfield District Library as a volunteer and then a part-time employee. She later accepted a position as a part-time employee at Portland District Library and was promoted to the youth librarian position. As the youth librarian she built the program from the ground creating numerous programs for all ages, collaborating with local schools and businesses in the community to better serve patrons. One of her favorite projects was designing the children’s garden.

In June of 2018 Mr. Reynolds was hired as the founding director of the Bath Township Public Library. As the founding director she has established procedures and policy, hired staff, and created programs for the community of Bath.

Ms. Reynolds received her Master of Library and Information Science degree from Wayne State in 2008. Her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education is from Aquinas College. Her passion for librarianship has fueled her to join the American Library Association and Michigan Library Association where she has served on numerous committees and attended several conferences both as an attendee and speaker. She is currently serving on the Planning and Evaluation Committee for the Woodlands Library Cooperative and attending the Small and Rural Library Leadership Academy.

Ms. Reynolds stated that she felt that her experience with small and rural libraries gives her a unique experience in knowing their strengths and weaknesses and how to help the Board make decisions that will help the Library of Michigan support the smaller and more rural libraries.
