Shamrocks cruise to victory over Burr Oak


The Portland St. Patrick's Shamrocks finished out their season at 9-0 after defeating Burr Oak 47-6 on Friday, October 25th. In the first quarter, it was obviously a mismatch from the beginning, with the scoring on their first three possessions on a 15 yard touchdown pass from Connor Cross to Tyler Coyne, a 28 yard touchdown pass to Shane Cook, and a 28 yard pass to Derec Fedewa. Burr Oak got on the board after completing a double pass, and the Shamrocks capped the quarter with a 78 yard break away rushing touchdown for Ned Smith. This left the score 28-6 after one quarter of play. In the second quarter, the Shamrocks added two more scores, first on an 8 yard pass from Connor Cross to Payton Russman, and then Ned Smith broke loose again and scampered 43 yards for another score, making it 40-6 going into halftime. In the third quarter, the Shamrocks put the brakes on the offense and clamped down on defense, leading to a scoreless quarter. The Shamrocks put one more score up when Connor Cross again connected to Tyler Coyne for a 13 yard touchdown pass, leaving the final score 47-6. Offensive leaders were Ned Smith who had 16 carries for 245 yard and 2 touchdowns. Connor Cross was 5 for 6 on passing for 92 yards and 5 touchdowns. John Schneider had 79 yards on 11 carries. Tyler Coyne was the leading receiver with 3 receptions for 43 yards and 2 touchdowns. Defensive leaders for the Shamrocks were Derec Fedewa with 10 tackles and 2 tackles for loss (TFL), Jeff Davlin had 9 tackles 1 sack and 1 TFL, Ned Smith also had 6 tackles. Bret Weller, Bryce Cook and Braxton Teachworth all had 5 tackles as well. The Shamrocks will find out who they play on Sunday at 7 pm.
