Shamrocks Defeat Manistee Catholic Central

On Saturday, October 5th, the Shamrocks hosted Manistee Catholic Central for St. Patrick's 68th annual Homecoming event. The crowd was large, and the Shamrocks didn't disappoint, defeating the Sabres 60-12. St. Patrick's wasted no time in this game, scoring on their first possession, on a 13 yard rush by Ned Smith. They scored on their next possession as well, on a 33 yard pass from Connor Cross to Ned Smith. Jeff Davlin locked down a 26 yard field goal on the next series, followed by another score by Ned Smith, this time on a 47 yard scamper. This left the score 22-0 after one quarter of play. In the second quarter, the Shamrocks again maintained their dominance, scoring on a 21 yard pass to Zach Spitzley. The Sabres struck back, completing a long pass and punching it in from the 3 yard line. The Shamrocks scored again, when Alex Kissane took it to the house, juking and jiving for a 60 yard kickoff return. Zach Spitzley sacked the quarterback in the endzone for a safety on the next defensive series and the Shamrocks again had good field position. Derec Fedewa burst around the end for a 34 yard rushing td. Again the Shamrock defense stifled the Sabres, when Jacobe Hayes-Dunning scored another safety. Payton Russman put another score on the board, powering his way into the endzone for a 30 yard score. This left the score 53-6 going into halftime. After halftime, the Shamrocks scored one more time when Ned Smith ran over three defenders en route to a 32 yard run. The Sabres struck one last time, slipping out of the defenders clutches, making the final score 60-12. Offensive leaders were Ned Smith who had 5 carries for 110 yards and 3 touchdowns and 1 reception for 33 yards and a touchdown, Derec Fedewa who had 4 carries for 59 yards and 1 touchdown. Zach Spitzley also had two receptions for 56 yards and a touchdown. Defensive leaders were myriad, with Jacobe Hayes-Dunning getting 6 tackles, 1 tackle for loss (TFL) and 1 safety, Ned Smith had 6 tackles, Riley and Alex Kissane both had 5 tackles, Shane Cook had 4 tackles and 1 interception, and Derec Fedewa had 4 tackles. The Shamrocks host Onekama next Saturday for a grudge match. Onekama is the team that ended the Shamrocks season in the semi-finals last year and it should be a good game to watch. Time for the game is currently scheduled at 7 pm, Saturday October 12th, but there is a possibility that it could be earlier on Saturday afternoon.
