Portland 150 Celebration Planning a Full Line Up

While our community’s 150th anniversary celebration does not formally kick off until Friday, September 20th, there are several events in the works that you will need to act quickly on if you want to participate in or enjoy.

 

You can find everything you need to know about the full sesquicentennial celebration at the portland150.org website or on the “Portland 150” Facebook page, but here are some details on some of the events that need advanced registration or participation.
 

 

Portland 150 Hunt 

This scavenger hunt will get you hunting around Portland with a camera in hand.  You can start at any time, but you must have your entry in by September 9th to be eligible for some great prizes.

Portland Passport

The Portland Passport will make you a traveler right here in Portland.  Visit designated locations around the community to fill your passport and be eligible to win.  This contest is also designed for individuals, groups or families, and you can start at any time, but you must have your entry in by September 9th to be eligible for prizes.

Baking Competition

This baking contest will feature three age levels, three categories, and some great prizes.

 

Registration is due by September 6th and can be done by clicking HERE.

 

Competitors must turn in their entry on Sunday, September 22nd at the Tent on Kent Street and Bridge Street between 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Judging begins promptly at 1:15 PM.

 

Winners will be announced at 3:00 PM and baked goods will be auctioned off for desserts for the farm to table dinner.


All entries must be homemade (no commercial mixes or fillings).  No cream fillings or anything that will need refrigeration. One entry person per class. You may also want to use a disposable dish as there is no guarantee your dish will be returned.


Prize values range from $25-$100 and all pre-registered entries receive commemorative ribbon.

 

Parade

The Sesquicentennial Parade will begin on Saturday, September 21st at 10:00 AM.  Lineup will be at 9:00 AM at the Bogue Flats.  The theme for the parade is "A Step Back in Time".  You can register your parade entry HERE.  

 

 

Farm to Table

The Farm to Table dinner is sponsored by Greenstone Farm Credit Services.  There are a limited number of seats, so buy your tickets early.

 

The dinner will occur on Sunday, September 22nd at 1:30, with service at 2:00 PM.

 

The event will include beautifully set tables stretching along the 100 block of Kent Street, live dinner music and delicious foods sourced from local farms, butchers, and suppliers.  The food will be prepared by your favorite local food establishments.


Entries from the baking contest will be auctioned off for dessert.
