PPS Board Tours Bond Construction Projects
On Thursday evening, members of the Portland Public Schools Board of Education received a guided tour of bond funded construction projects around the district. The tour was led by members of Clark Constructions project management team who are overseeing the work within the district.
I was invited to tag along on the tour to take photographs to share with Beacon readers.
After the tour, Superintendent William Heath told the Beacon, “Tonight we did the tour. Showed the board and some of the administration the progress so far on the bond. At this point, the bond is actually under budget and is on time. Everything that we had planned to do will get done this summer and we will be ready for school to start. Now there is a lot of summer left, and there is a lot of things that can probably go wrong between now and then, but as of right now are set to be ready for school to start. We have made great progress. The important thing is we are under budget and that money is being carried over to next summer, and that will allow us to do more next summer.”
Heath added, “We have about a month left of summer to get work done, and there is a lot going on. I know it is really exciting for everyone to come up and see it, but we ask that you please stay out of the construction sites. We are dealing with a lot of foot traffic and people coming up to see what is going on. It will get done and you will be able to see what is going on soon, but if you are coming through a construction zone you are actually putting yourself in danger and we do not want anyone to get hurt. There are a lot of things within a construction site that make it dangerous. Please follow the signs. If a road is blocked, do not cross it. If there is tape around it, do not go through it. If you need to get to an area, please do not hesitate to contact the superintendent’s office and we will get you to into that area if we need to.”
To see all the photos taken during the tour tonight, as well as a couple of photos of the replica bridge super structures that are being fabricated by Eagle Enterprises and will be mounted on the new gates to the stadium, please check out the album posted on our Facebook page.
