Sparrow Health System preparing to break ground for new Portland Health Clinic
The proposed new facility will be about five times larger than the current facility. Lansing-based Sparrow Health System’s administration is currently evaluating what model and scope of services will initially be offered at the new facility. “We have not yet finalized a specific model of services for the new facility”, Roeser stated. While the current Portland Medical Group, which is a Federally designated Rural Health Clinic now located on Grand River, will be moved to the new facility, Roeser shared, “We are exploring expanded evening and weekend hours as well as a no-appointment-necessary, walk-in model.” In addition, it may be possible to offer lab and x-ray services in the new facility. Roeser said, “Sparrow will announce the specifics of the model this Fall.”
Once the architectural and engineering plans are developed by Progressive AE, the Portland City Planning Commission will need to review and approve the final site plans. William Roeser, who is a Portland resident and a member of the Portland City Planning Commission, will abstain from voting on the final site plans due to his role with Sparrow Health System. “If all goes well”, Roeser declared, “a new clinic could be completed and ready to provide services by next Spring”.
