Lady Raider Softball Takes 1st at Ann Arbor Skyline

The varsity softball team traveled to Ann Arbor this past weekend to compete in the Skyline Invitational Tournament. In the first game of the day Portland defeated Ann Arbor Huron by the score of 19-3 in five innings. Portland scored their runs on 11 hits and didn't have an error in the game. Leading hitters were Sophie Novara went three for four with a double and a triple and Brooke Seale who went 2 for 3 with a double and a triple.

In the second game the Raiders defeated a very good Quincy team by the score of 10 - 0 in five innings and again did not commit an error. A key play in the game occurred in the bottom of the third when Sophie Novara scored Natalie Linebaugh on a perfectly executed suicide squeeze. Portland went on to score 7 runs in fourth to take command of the game. Jada led all hitters by going 3 for 4 with an RBI and Emma Selden added two hits.

In the championship game Portland took on host Ann Arbor Skyline. In a very tight hard fought game the Raiders came out on top defeating the Eagles 5 - 3. Emma Johnson went 2 for 2 with a double and an RBI. Jada Walton, Natalie Linebaugh, Brooke Seal and Emma Selden also had hits in the game.

Sophie Novara had an outstanding day on the mound picking up all three wins. She pitched 17 innings, gave up 5 runs, struck out 16 and gave up only 12 hits. Portland is now 15 and 6 for the season and will play Charlotte on Tuesday at home.
