2019 Winners of the David A. Huhn Memorial Scholarship

American Legion Post 129 of Portland has announced the winners of their two $1,000.00 scholarships for 2019. David Fedewa, the commander of Post 129 in Portland, presented the scholarships to Summer Russman and Brandon Scheurer.

The post explained, “Our Scholarship was established in 2016 as a living memorial to David A. Huhn who was killed in action December 1st, 2005. All applicants must be related to veterans who were honorably discharged, and is available to students of both Portland High and St. Patrick’s.”

Both winners this year happen to be graduates of Portland St Patrick’s.

Summer Russman will be attending Aquinas College focusing on social work and community involvement and is the Grand Daughter of Veteran John Dorsky.

The other winner was Brandon Scheurer. He will be attending Saginaw Valley State University studying Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Physics. He is the Grandson of Veteran Dennis Stuart.

Congratulations to both Summer and Brandon.
