Portland’s Hunter Klein to Continue Football Career at Siena Heights

Portland High School senior offensive lineman Hunter Klein has decided to take his talents to Siena Heights University to continue his football career in the 2019-2020 school year.

Klein was a member of the varsity football for the Raiders for two years as a starting offensive tackle. He earned All-Conference and All-County honors in his senior season. He was also a four-year member of the Raider Varsity Track and Field team where he received honorable mention all-conference for shot put.

The 6-foot 7-inch, 320-pound lineman expects to play offensive tackle at Siena Heights.

When asked why he choose Sienna Heights over other programs, Klein said, “I chose Siena Heights because it was the best fit for me to succeed academically and also improve my craft as a football player. They have a smaller campus which made me feel at home because I grew up in our very own small community.” Klein intends to major in business administration.

Klein said, “I would like to thank everyone who helped me on the long journey from having endless support from my family and friends, and also my teammates and coaches for pushing me to achieve my goals. I could have never done it without these people in my life.”

Raider Varsity Football Head Coach John Novara said, “Hunter had a tremendous career at Portland High School. He is a big kid that will do well in the collegiate level. His size and only being 17 years old, is what colleges where attracted to. Hunter received a size able scholarship at Sienna Heights because they could see the tremendous potential in him. Hunter is a hard worker and did a great job in the weight room developing strength. He is a great kid and is a ‘high character’ kid who will be missed next season.”

Siena Heights, located in Adrian, MI, was founded in 1919 and has approximately 1,200 undergraduate students on its main campus. The University is one of only 18 Dominican Catholic colleges and universities in America. The school features a 12-1 faculty-to-student ratio.

From the athletics perspective, the Saints of Siena Heights are a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). They are a member of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.

The Saints football team finished 7-3 overall and 3-3 in conference in 2018. They will start their 2019 season at home on September 7th when they face Olivet Nazarene University Tigers and former PHS standout Jalon Simpson.
