Portland St. Patrick's Boys Basketball District Preview

After a successful three-quarters of the season, the Shamrocks ran into a bit of a cold spell, ending the season on a four-game losing streak. Player illness, cancelled games, and a lack of practice time all lead the Shamrocks to a poor finish on the regular season. Fortunately, the Shamrocks are now healthy again, and might be peaking at just the right time, as the playoff season is just beginning, and a whole new opportunity awaits the talented Shamrock team.

The players, fans and coaches all had a team goal as winning the districts and competing in the playoffs this season, and there is no reason the Shamrocks cannot still achieve that goal.

Coach Mark Scheurer said that his team, "Should be a very competitive district where the team that plays well this week should win it. That could be us, but we’ll have to take care of the ball and defend. Then, if we make some shots we’ll have as good of a shot as anyone."

Portland St. Patrick's will be visiting Fowler for their 2019 playoff debut on Wednesday, February 27th at 6:00 pm. Their opponent is a familiar one, Webberville (14-5) who the Shamrocks defeated 41-35 in week two.

Fowler (9-9) has a match up with Morrice (3-14) on Monday, and the winner of those two teams plays Lansing Christian Wednesday at 6:00 pm.

Fowler is another familiar foe for the Shamrocks, as St. Patrick's defeated the Eagles 52-42 early in the season, but fell to them 66-39 at the end.

The District Final will be on Friday, March 1st at 7:00 pm in Fowler.
