After the district tournament, Portland Coach Mark Holdren said, "This was a great tournament for us. We qualified eight wrestlers to the Regionals. It is a historic high number. Portland can be proud of how the Raider wrestlers represented the community."
Regarding one of his senior wrestlers, Holdren said, "I feel for Ethan Getchell. He wrestled in the one of the toughest weight classes and drew the weight class champion and third place wrestlers in the first two rounds. He wasn't able to accomplish his goal of wrestling at the state finals. It was heartbreaking. Ethan handled the loss with dignity showing his Portland Wrestling Pride."
Senior Owen Guilford had a record-breaking day. He was able to surpass the wrestling milestone of 150 career wins and break the Pin Record at Portland High School. Owen now ranks in 8th place on the Century Club list and is in first place with 100 career pins.
Holdren said, "Trevor Maus was the previous Career Pin Record holding having 99 total pins. He graduated in 2010." He added, "Owen had always been a pinner. He came into this season with 110 wins and 72 pins."
