Raider Wrestling Takes First at Mike Adamson Invitational

The Portland High School wrestling team traveled to Ionia on December 28th for the Mike Adamson Invitational. 11 Raiders reached the podium in their respective weight classes, and the Raiders came away with the team title.

Portland Coach Andy Pulling said, “We wrestled well as a team and had successes throughout our lineup. Some wrestlers got their first varsity matches while others continued their high levels of success by securing 1st place which is accompanied with a 1st place medal and their weight class bracket.”

Pulling added, “This team is a hardworking team and our success at this tournament is a result of that, plain and simple. We are mixed in our levels of experience, but we grind in practice and it shows in our matches. Our coaching staff is impressed with our team’s work ethic but knows there is still work to be done to achieve our post season goals.”

Reaching the podium for the Raiders were:

Carter Johnson 2nd (103 pounds)

Caiden Pelc 1st (112)

Trent Treirweiler 1st (125)

Jared Thelen 2nd (135)

Marty Thelen 4th (140)

Ethan Getchell 3rd (152)

Hunter Hoppes 4th (152)

Kyle Hinds 1st (160)

Owen Guilford 1st (171)

Doak Manshum 4th (215)

Zac Fedewa 1st (285)

The Raiders also took first at the Saginaw Heritage tournament earlier this month when six wrestlers went unbeaten at that tournament.
