St. Patrick’s Brandon Scheurer Signs to Play Baseball for SVSU

Brandon Scheurer, senior student-athlete at Portland St. Patrick, just signed his national letter of intent to attend and play baseball at Saginaw Valley State University next year.

Brandon was a four-time letter winner for the Shamrocks at both baseball and basketball.

When asked why he chose SVSU, he said, “SVSU just seemed like a perfect fit. The opportunity to play baseball for Coach Jaksa and get my degree at a top tier university was something I couldn’t pass up. SVSU had a great campus, the program I wanted to go into (mechanical engineering), and a top-level baseball program.”

He is expected to pitch for the Cardinals, but will likely see time at shortstop and second base as well. Brandon said, “I’d be willing to play anywhere they need me.”

Brandon added, “Just wanted to say how extremely blessed I feel that I have been given this opportunity to continue my athletic career for four more years! I would also like to thank my family, especially my mom and my dad. Also, I would like to thank my coaches, my Uncle Bryan, Dan Thelen, Griff Woodman, Joe McDonald and Bill Nowak for all of the work they have put in to making me the person and player that I am today.”

When asked what he planned to major in at SVSU, Brandon said, “Mechanical Engineering but still considering a couple of other majors like Electrical Engineering and Elementary Education.”

Brandon’s father, Mark Scheurer said, “Jill and I couldn’t be more proud of Brandon on his signing at SVSU. He decided a couple years ago that he wanted to be a college baseball player and Jill and I being college athletes ourselves had conversations with him about what he needed to do. He sacrificed times with friends to pursue his dream by working out with Bill Nowak to become faster and stronger and playing a full summer schedule the last two years against college level players with Capital City Baseball Kingdom. His drive on the playing field and classroom gave him this great opportunity to be a student/athlete at SVSU. As his dad and coach, it ranks right up there with hugging him after the final out when we won the 2017 Division IV State Title. Not to mention, him being chosen as all state and academic all-state in baseball the past two years and all state and academic all-state in basketball last year. Being able to coach with my brother Bryan, who was instrumental in this accomplishment as well, and coach my son in the process is truly surely and a Blessing. We want to thank Coach Steve Jaksa for giving Brandon an opportunity to fulfill his childhood dreams of being a college baseball player.”

St. Patrick School Athletic Director Patrick Russman said, “We are very proud of Brandon and look forward to seeing him finish out his Senior year at St. Patrick.”
