FREE MEAL AT PORTLAND ST PATS

Do you know anyone who is short on funds or short on friends?  The students of St. Patrick High School in Portland will be hosting a pre-Thanksgiving dinner for those in need of good food or good company on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 from 4:00-7:00 pm in the cafeteria at St. Pat’s school. Please help to spread the word to anyone in the area who would like to attend the dinner.  There is no cost for the meal.  No RSVP required either.

Delivery will be provided for any home-bound residents within Portland School District.  Call 517-227-1164 on November 21 to place your order.  When the dinner concludes at 7:00 p.m., all remaining food will be packed into takeout meals to be enjoyed the next day.

PORTLAND ST PATRICK STUDENTS PRESENT THANKSLIVING

For more than 20 years, the students from Portland St. Patrick School have set aside one day each fall to go out into the community to make a difference.  The day was originally called Pay It Forward Day, but in 2017 it took on a new name, Thanksliving, and a wider focus.

Thanksliving will be held on Tuesday, November 20, and the entire student body will participate.  Many tasks will be undertaken, but the high school students are especially focused on these two:

Reaching out to the elderly and others who need visits or help.  Beginning at 9:00 a.m., students will visit the elderly and shut ins to help with shopping, household chores, necessary yard work, or whatever is needed.   They will also spend time visiting with the people they help.

A day of fun for children with special needs and their families.  Beginning at 9:00 a.m., children with special needs along with their families are invited to the school for a day of indoor and outdoor activities, as well as multiple locations featuring activities, including Bonter Ranch where students can participate in horseback riding (led by students who are knowledgeable in horse-therapy) and a hayride.  Lunch will be provided at no cost to the families at all locations.
