A Role Model for Civility

Robert Lathers

Michigan Governor Rick Snyder hosted a fundraiser for State Representative Julie Calley (R-Portland) in Hastings on Thursday morning. Calley’s district covers Barry County and more than half of Ionia County. The event was also hosted by Julie’s husband, Lt. Governor Brian Calley.

One of the themes that Governor Snyder addressed to those in attendance was civility. He asked the group, “Is this how we want our children and the next generation to act?” referring to the divisive, uncivil behavior we are experiencing on a National level. With a warm and graceful deference to Ms. Calley, the Governor said, “Julie is an awesome role model for civility.” He added a comment about her work in the legislature during her first term, “Julie has done a fabulous job.”

Representative Calley is running for a second term as State Representative. Her opponent is Democrat Shawn Winters of Hastings. Voters will go to the polls on Tuesday, November 6th.
